July 10, 2016 - Thinking Happy

We have been in a sad time the past few weeks.  Many losses of life and homes, etc...

Yet I hear from one and then another, that people are cheerful, and that they are upbeat, at a very down beat time.

I believe that the grace of God is being seen in this time of need.

I also think in the middle of the loss, men start to think about what they have.  The blessings, etc...that way of thinking will keep the heart and mind happy!!

Paul was in a hard time and told the king..."I think myself happy..." (Acts 26:2)

When you get to thinking what all God has blessed you with, you can not help but be happy!

July 3, 2016 - It Was Declared 240 Years Ago

240 years ago the colony leaders declared their independence from England.  We became the United States of America.  I believe we were united with a great understanding for our need for the Lord God to fight for the cause; to be united in the desire to have a nation that pleased the Lord.

Today, as we thank God for our nation, there is much need for our prayers for a country to be a united nation.  I am glad for the liberties we have, however we have taken some liberties that God has not given to us.  My prayer for our nation is that we declare our dependency for the Lord God, like we once did.

April 24, 2016 - Personal Checklist For Revival

1.  Am I in fellowship with the Lord? (1 Corinthians 1:9)
2.  Do I daily read God's Word?  (Psalm 1:1-4)
3.  How is my prayer life?  (Luke 11:9-10)
4.  Do I have unconfessed sin in my life?  (Psalm 66:18)
5.  Do I love the brethren?  (John 13:35)
6.  Do I gossip?  (Proverbs 11:13)
7.  Do I ever go on visitation?  (Mark 16:15)
8.  Am I concerned about souls?  (1 John 3:17-18)

April 17, 2016 - How Big Is God?

Big enough to save us for all eternity.
Big enough to bring us from darkness to light.
Big enough to bring us from death to life.
Big enough to bring us from ruin to redemption.
Big enough to bring us from sin to salvation.
Big enough to keep what we have committed to Him by faith.
Big enough to answer any prayer.
Big enough to fully meet any need, any day, every day.

March 27, 2016 - Jesus Lives!

As I read through the Resurrection morning events, one of my favorite lines is when the angels ask...in Luke 24:5 - "Why seek ye the living among the dead?"  They came to minister to a dead body, and found a living Lord!!!

I am glad to know because He lives, I live!!!

My faith is in the Lord of Glory.  Happy Easter!!! Jesus Lives!!!

February 21, 2016 - God Knows. . .

Job 22:3, 8-10 - "Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat!...Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him:  On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him:  But he knoweth the way that I take:..."

You may not see God, but you are always in His sight!!!  Things may be going on in your life that make it hard to find God.

When you can not find Him, it is a comfort to know "...he knoweth the way that I take..."

January 31, 2016 - Forgive And Remember

We have been told that when we forgive, we are to forget the offense.  Some offences can be forgotten, most can not.  Because the hurt can never be forgotten!!

So I say, "Forgive and Remember"...Remember that you have forgiven that hurtful offence.  When you remember that you have forgiven, you then can file it back in the "Not Permissible" file of your heart!!  Remind yourself that you can not bring that up again.  The Lord has a sea of forgetfulness...the devil, world, and your own flesh like to fish out some of those past things to bring back into play to trouble you.  But Forget and Remember they have been forgiven.

Ephesians 4:32 - "And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you."

January 3, 2016 - New Year, Old Path

As we start off this new year of 2016, we will have some new experiences; some welcomed, and some not so welcomed.  As we face each new day, I look for something that is new to my knowledge, something I may not have paid attention to in the past.

Also as we face each day of the new year, let's keep to the "Old Paths" that please our Lord.  Years change, dates change, etc...but our Lord changes not.  What pleased Him last year will please Him this year also!!!

Jeremiah 6:16 - "Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls.  But they said, We will not walk therein."

December 6, 2015 - Merry Christmas

Psalm 146:5 - "Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God."

I like to hear "Merry Christmas" said!!!  Many are told to say Happy Holidays rather than Merry Christmas.  What I say when wished Happy Holidays is "Thank you...do you know why it is a Happy Holiday?  Happy is he who has God for Help and Hope.  Christmas is just that.  Christ was given of God for our Help and Hope for salvation!!! So you have a Merry Christmas also!!

November 22, 2015 - Can Not Argue One To Christ!

You can not argue one to Christ and here is why...

Romans 1017 - "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."

To get one saved they must hear the gospel.  To hear the gospel, they must be still and listen.  Every word you use he comes back at you.  Reminds me of Matthew 7:6 - "...neither cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feed, and turn again and rend you."

Pray for that heart, asking the Lord to work on it, that the next time you talk with them the heart will be in a learning mode rather than a rending mode!!!

November 15, 2015 - We Need The Bread Of Heaven!

Deuteronomy 8:3 - "...And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live."

We NEED the Bible, so READ the Bible, and FEED upon the Bible, then give HEED to the Bible.

Everybody has questions, but there is only one unfailing source for answers...The Bible!!

November 8, 2015 - Blessed In Christ, Not Country!

I asked a fellow if he felt the blessing of being saved, and he replied, "God has blessed me to be in America."  I can not argue with that statement, but that is not the blessing I was asking about!

Ephesians 1:3 - "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:"

As a nation we are blessed by God's giving us a rich, healthy, clean land, skilled work force, etc. (physical blessings).

For the believer, we have been given spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:  (pardon, peace, redemption, adoption, the earnest of the Spirit, etc.)

The blessings have fitted, or prepared us for heaven; that in Christ, through Christ, or by means of him, God had bestowed all spiritual blessings that were fitted to prepare for heaven.

I know as an American you are blessed.  Do you know of God's spiritual blessings that are only found through trusting Christ for Salvation?

October 25, 2015 - What Matters!

Ecclesiastes 12:13 - "Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter:  Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man."

Solomon had all that the world could offer a man.  He came to the conclusion...all is vain, empty...what matters in one's life...is to fear God, and keep his commandments.

Whatever may be our purpose in life, it needs to fall under "the fear of God, and in keeping of His commandments.:  If your life's purpose is not God's will, then your life has no purpose!!!

October 18, 2015 - Contentment

Much in life is not always the way we desire.  I remember being told as a boy..."If you did not get what you like, why not like what you got?"

You know that is just what Paul did...

Philippians 4:11 - "Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content."

That is just what Paul advised...

1 Timothy 6:6-8 - "But godliness with contentment is great gain.  For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.  And having food and raiment let us be therewith content."

Contentment:  Reasonably happy and satisfied with the way things are.

September 27, 2015 - Taken

Matthew 24:40-41 - "Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.  Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left."

I am glad that over 32 years ago I trusted Christ for salvation.  I know I will be one of the taken, and not the other left.  I can not help but believe that day could be ANY day.  It is a comfort to know you will be one of the taken.  I just want to be taken faithfully serving my Lord, and not while in an unfaithful position.

James 5:8 - "Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts:  for the coming of the lord draweth nigh."

September 13, 2015 - I've Never Been Handed A Snake

Matthew 7:9-10 - "Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?  Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?"

I have not always gotten what I have asked for from God.  He would never give to me a stone for bread, and a snake for a fish.  As I pray, I trust the Lord's will.  The way I see it, some things I have prayed for must have been as useless as a stone, or harmful as a snake!!

I have never been handed a snake, but boy oh boy, I sure have been blessed by His hand!!

September 6, 2015 - What I Know About Prayer

Jeremiah 33:3 - "Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not."

When we pray God shows us great and mighty things we know not.  I like surprises from the Lord.  What also excites me about prayer is what I know!

I know:

  • Prayer revives the church of God
  • Prayer reveals the will of God
  • Prayer restores the children of God
  • Prayer resists the enemies of God
I know we can not do without PRAYER!!

August 30, 2015 - Don't Quit

God has given each enough mercy to keep faithful.

2 Corinthians 4:1 - "Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;"

He, the Spirit of God, lives in each believer, renewing us each day.

2 Corinthians 4:16 - "For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day."

Some quit because:
  1. They do not have Christ!
  2. They do not have Courage!!
  3. They do not have Character!!
There is a crown for the faithful!!  (1 Corinthians 9:25)

August 23, 2015 - On Our Feet!

You have heard people say..."I need to get back on my feet."

You may say that about yourself, your home, your business, your church, or your country.  Whatever it may be that needs to get back on its feet...you will not get back on your feet until you first get on your knees!

Jeremiah 33:3 - "Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not."

August 9, 2015 - 159 Years Of Service

This Homecoming Day is our Church's 159 year anniversary!

After than many years we are still using only the King James Bible, our music is still God-honoring, we have as a norm three services a week, we support missions, and we are doing what we can to get the Gospel message out!

All of this, with a strong desire to be found faithful when the Lord shall call us home to The Great Homecoming!!

Until then, let's be found faithful!!

August 2, 2015 - I See Beyond The Moon

The lawyer says to the man, "Are you sure you saw my client commit this burglary?  You are 80 years old...how far can you see?"

The man replied, "I can see the moon, how far is that?"

Jesus says of the leadership of His day...Matthew 15:14 - "...they be blind leaders of the blind.  And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch."

I am glad for the understanding that salvation has given me.  I can see where our blind leadership today is leading us.  By God's grace, and by faith in Christ, I see even beyond the moon.

July 5, 2015 - Were and Are

I am glad that I have a past tense (were), and even a greater present tense (are) in my life.  That all came about because of Jesus!!

1 Corinthians 6:9-11 - "Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God?  Be not deceived:  neither fornicators, nor idolators, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, not thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.  And such were some of you:  but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God."

I was verses 9-10 in my natural born state, but now I am verse 11, because of a supernatural rebirth in Jesus!!  The sad thing is that I have talked with some who say they never were verses 9-10, so they can never be verse 11.

June 28, 2015 - 239 of Liberty

This Saturday, July 4th, our nation will be 239 years old.  I thank God for our nation.  We enjoy many liberties that other countries know nothing of.

Talking with a man from another country, he said that they could not even carry a pocket knife...or have a gun in their homes...and I said in my spirit at the moment, "Thank you Lord, for the USA..."  We still have open worship, and can tell all we desire of the truth of salvation through Christ without fear of salvation through Christ without fear of imprisonment!!  I am not blind.  Our nation is turning away from the Lord, and just last week every state will have same-sex marriage under the idea of civil rights.  Yet today 239 years later we have Liberty to spread the name of Christ, so let's do what is best for our nation and magnify the Lord!!!

June 21, 2015 - The Ministry Of Father

Fatherhood (and Grandfatherhood) is one of the many blessings my Heavenly Father has blessed me with, and called me to.

Always remember that with every blessing there is responsibility!!

Luke 12:48 - "...For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required..."

The influence and power a father has is a great force to guide or misguide his children.  Pray and always look to the Lord for wisdom, strength, and direction in the ministry of Fatherhood!!

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!

June 7, 2015 - Summer Vacation

School is out for summer.  I am sure there are a lot of ideas like...sun, sand, water, trips, burgers, hot dogs, camping, fishing, visiting families, etc.

Do not forget Vacation Bible School...June 8th-13th at 6:45 pm each night.  A summer is not complete without a week of VBS...

We have class for all ages.  Enjoy your summer (with sun, sand, water, trips, burgers, hot dogs, camping, fishing, visiting families, etc.).  Just be sure to have a complete summer vacation by attending VBS.

May 10, 2015 - To Accommodate

Define:  Accommodate

1.  To adjust actions in response to somebody's needs
2.  To allow for something

If we desire to accommodate, help in parking, seating, safety, or other service of that kind, great!  Let's be accommodating!!

BUT...Churches today want the worship, singing, teaching and preaching to accommodate every body, idea, and walk of life.  Let's be sure that we make it our goal and desire to accommodate One, and that One being our Lord.  After all, it is He that we have come to worship and learn of.  We have not come today to make our ideas known, and worship ourselves.

As we offer up our praise, let's make sure it is

Accommodating to our Lord!!

May 3, 2015 - Our Pastor

Spring revivals are usually a sign that our Pastor will be gone some.  He is invited to many churches to preach.  I miss our Pastor when he is gone, and I hope you miss him too.  But aren't you proud to call him YOUR Pastor when he is in high demand to preach out?  It makes me proud to call him mine because I know he wouldn't be invited so much if he were not preaching it straight, preaching it narrow, and preaching it out of the King James Bible.  Thank you, God, for allowing him to be OUR PASTOR!!

April 26, 2015 - At The Close Of Each Prayer

Our VBS is just around the corner, June 8th to the 13th.  Brother Alan has decided that we will go one week, Monday through Saturday.  We will still have the hot dog lunch and the car races that Saturday, al that day will be our graduation.  What I am asking is every time you pray and before you close your prayer, add a P.S. and pray for our VBS.  I do believe there is a lot of good seed sown in the heart of each child each night.  What we need is God's power on our VBS!!

April 19, 2015 - Edify Another

Romans 14:19 - "Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another."

To Edify: --the act of building

--the act of one who promotes another's growth in Christian wisdom, piety, happiness, and holiness.  It takes no skill, care, or thought to tear, bite and devour one another, a work of the flesh...the old nature.

Galatians 5:15 - "But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another."

To edify another it takes following the Spirit of God, activating the fruit of the Spirit.  It takes skill, care, and thought, not of oneself, but of others!

March 29, 2015 - Christ Still Heals

As we study the gospels, there is nothing magical or cure-producing in the variety of healing methods Jesus used.

  • Christ Touched - Matthew 8:15
  • Christ Spoke - John 5:8-9
  • Christ Spat - Mark 8:22-26 and Mark 7:33-35
  • Christ Used Clay - John 9:6
  • The Afflicted Touched Christ's Clothes - Matthew 9:20-22
The key is not the method...the key is Jesus.  So take your medication and do your therapy as the doctor orders, but be sure to call on Jesus.

Christ Still Heals.

March 22, 2015 - Our Purpose Is The Same

We are given by God the ability to make choices in our lives.  We may choose our education, career path, spouse, hobbies, and a multitude of other things.  But we do not get to choose our purpose in life.  No matter what choices you make, our purpose is the same...we are to glorify God.  When we understand that fact, it will guide all of our choices in life!

Colossians 1:16 - "For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers:  all things were created by him, and for him."

March 15, 2015 - Trust With All Your Heart

Proverbs 3:5 - "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding."

The alternative to trusting God is worry, conflict, and feeling like you've got to control it all.  That is a very stressful, miserable way to live.

God says, "I've got a better idea.  Trust Me!!!"

March 1, 2015 - Most Recognized Verse In The Bible

John 3:16 - "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

In this one verse we see:

1. Greatest Lover = God
2. Greatest Span of Love = The World
3. Greatest Gift of Love = Son (Jesus)
4. Greatest Accessibility = Whosoever Believeth In Him
5. Greatest Need = Not Perish But Have Everlasting Life

The most recognized verse in the Bible!!

Have you acted upon the truth of this verse by accepting Jesus Christ for your salvation??

February 15, 2015 - Different On Purpose

I noticed a sign the other day that said "Different On Purpose."

That is just what we as believers are to be in this world...Different On Purpose.

2 Corinthians 6:17 - "Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you."

Romans 12:2 - "And be ye not conformed to this world; but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God."

We are not to be conformed to the norm.  We that are saved have a transforming power within us.  He, the Spirit of God, will guide us, enable us, and wants us to be "Different On Purpose."

February 8, 2015 - God Told Me So!

How do you know that Jesus is the Son of God?  How do you know Jesus is the Salvation of mankind?  I know by the same reason Peter know that Jesus is the Son of the living God.

Matthew 16:15-17 - "He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?  And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.  And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona:  for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto the, by my Father which is in heaven."

What has God told you?

February 1, 2015 - God's Righteousness

Matthew 6:33 - "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."

When one comes of the age of understanding, I believe the most important thing to know and be sure of is...The Kingdom Of God.  Where will you spend eternity?  Heaven or Hell?  I believe all desire the idea of Heaven, and not Hell.

In seeking that, we must set aside our righteousness, and seek God's.  We are told we cannot perform righteousness,  (for there is none righteous).  We are to believe unto righteousness, by placing all our faith in Christ Jesus!!  Jesus is the righteousness of God alone!!  (Romans 10:9-10)

January 25, 2015 - The Importance Of Your Light

Matthew 5:14 - "Ye are the light of the world..."

It may really surprise you the influence you have on others.  If I understand the Bible correctly, that is why the Lord has left us here to influence, and point the way to Christ.  By being this light, we are to show and tell the world their need of Christ.

You may be only one person in all the world, but you may be all the world to one person.

Romans 14:7 - "For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself."

January 18, 2015 - Our Faith Promise Missions

The next two Sundays we will be taking up our Mission promises for this year.  We send out $2,700 each month to our 27 missions that we support.  The support money comes by each member giving whatever the amount you believe the Lord would have you to give each month.  And then 15% of the general offerings are put into our missions fund.

Mark 16:15 - "And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature."

Missions is a way that First Baptist Church of Pinch can go world wide!

Be sure to be a part of it!!

January 4, 2015 - Thy Word

As we start off in this new year of 2015, let me challenge you to memorize verses of the Bible.  Even if a month later after you have memorized it, you can not remember it, I know by the Word of God that it will do you good, hidden in your heart!

Psalm 119:11 - "Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee."

The best thing (Thy Word) in the best place (mine heart) for the best of purposes (to not sin).

Hey, 2015 COULD BE THE YEAR!!

December 21, 2014 - Merry Christ-X

I love the Christmas season, and much that comes with it!  From the manger scene, candy canes, lights, and other bells and whistles.  The one thing that upsets my soul is seeing Christmas spelled "X-mas".

There is one name that is above all names.  Let's not be so lazy, thoughtless, and short-cutting by "X"-ing out Christ!  I say as a born again believer in Christ...if you must shortcut, "X" out the mass!

Philippians 2:9 - "Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name."

December 14, 2014 - Our Fellowship

As we have our Christmas Dinner today, I am reminded of the reason for our fellowship.

1 John 1:3 - "...and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus."

The word "with" before both "Father" and "Son" distinguishes the persons we now have fellowship with.  It is not added "and with the Holy Ghost"; for it is by the Holy Ghost in us, that we are enabled to have fellowship with the Father and Son.

Believers enjoy the fellowship OF, but not WITH, the Holy Ghost.

December 7, 2014 - What Peace!

Psalm 133:1 - "Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!"

Pastor Spurlock asked if I would and could leave our service today to come preach for his "Winter Jubilee".   He has left his pulpit to come help me with meetings, so I said yes I will.  I am so blessed that I could!!  There can be times in a church when it would not be wise to not be there as a pastor, because of disunity!  So I thank God, and each one of you for keeping the peace....

Ephesians 4:2-3 - "With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace."

November 30, 2014 - What The Bible Says About Prayer (cont.)

Pray In Faith Believing - Jesus said, "Have faith in God...what things so ever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them." (Mark 11:22-24)

Pray Persistently - "Men ought always to pray, and not to faint...ask, and it shall be given you; seek and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you." (Luke 18:1; 11:9)

Pray With Thanksgiving - "Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving." (Colossians 4:2)

November 23, 2014 - Be Thankful!!

1 Timothy 3:1-2 - "This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.  For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy;"

In four more days we will be celebrating Thanksgiving Day...the holiday where we commemorate the feast given in thanks for the harvest by the Pilgrim colonists in 1621.

I'm thankful the Lord has given us much in 2014!  As we read in 1 Timothy 3:1-2, one of the perilous things in these last days is unthankfulness.  I am glad for our holiday of Thanksgiving.  Let's be sure to be thankful each day for the Lord's goodness and grace!

November 16, 2014 - God's Gracious Grip

John 10:28 - "And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand."

This verse teaches that salvation is given by God, and gripped by God. (It's a question of "Who has who?".)  All we do is call upon Him in faith and repentance, and God does the rest!!

We are saved one time, but the journey to maturity in Christ is a life-long experience with ups and downs, but we are always kept by the Gracious Grip of God.

November 9, 2014 - What The Bible Says About Prayer

Pray In Jesus' Name - "whatsoever  ye shall ask in my name, that will I do" (John 14:13)

Pray According to God's Will - "If we ask anything according to His will, He heareth us:  and if we know that He hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him" (1 John 5:14,15)

Pray According To God's Word - "If ye abide in me, and My words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you." (John 15:7)

Pray In The Spirit - "We know not what we should pray for as we ought:  but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us." (Romans 8:26,27; Jude 20)

November 2, 2014 - A Product Of God

Philippians 1:6 - "Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ."

He's still working on His product...He works on it, then tests it, then works on it again.  So do not be so critical of one another, because we are all a work in progress.  A product of God's grace and love.

Also, this verse points to the eternal security of the saved:  For Christ is...

Hebrews 12:2 - "...the author and finisher of our faith..."

October 26, 2014 - Fulfill The Law Of Christ

Galatians 6:2 - "Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ."

There are many reasons we come to church.  Each reason should be a spoke in the hub that is Jesus.  To fulfill the law of Christ, we do not come to church just to see each other.  We come to church to see each other through!

Hebrews 10:24-25 - "And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:  Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching."

As we see in these last days the day approaching, let us not forget to do what we can to fulfill the law of Christ!

October 19, 2014 - My Greatest Desires

Psalm 37:4 - "Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart."

I noticed that my desires have changed through the years.  As things have changed in my life, my desires have changed also.  I am promised to have the desire of my heart only when I delight myself in the Lord.

I have noticed the more I delight myself in the Lord, the more I desire to please Him.  I heard all week at the meeting I was at..."we need more God."  The truth is that at the very moment of salvation, we have been given all of God that can be had.  What is needed in my life is for the Lord to "have more of me!"  I believe the greatest desire in one's heart is to let the Lord have all of you!!

October 12, 2014 - "If"

Revival hinges on one two-letter word..."IF".

2 Chronicles 7:14 - "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."

Revival always starts with one individual, then it spreads church-wide, and then even community-wide!

If one person leaves the service today with a purpose to be a better witness, and starts witnessing to the lost around them, that can change the world.  You change one person, you change the world.

If we will...Then God will!!

October 5, 2014 - God Knows

Job 23:3, 8-10 - "Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat!...Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him:  On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him:  But he knoweth the way that I take..."

You may not see God, but you are always in His sight!  Things may be going on in your life that make it hard to find God.

But when you can not find Him, it is a comfort to know...

"He knoweth the way that I take..."

September 28, 2014 - Give Glory In Each Step You Take

2 Peter 3:18 - "But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  To him be glory both now and forever."

Just like a child learns to walk, they then become more stable as they grow.  It is the same as when a new believer start his walk with the Lord.

Pursuing maturity and knowledge in the Lord will lead to doctrinal stability and prevent a believer from being led astray.  Your walk will be more sure, and you will find yourself in each step you take...glorifying the Lord!!

September 21, 2014 - I Am Loved

1 John 4:19 - "We love him, because he first loved us."

As a child of God it is great to know that you are loved by the Maker, not because you try to please Him and succeed, or fail to please Him and apologize, but because He wants to be your Father.  He first loved us...nothing more!!

All efforts to win His affection are unnecessary.  you can no more make Him want you than you can convince Him to abandon you.

1 John 4:10 - "Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins."

I am loved...period.

September 14, 2014 - Sufficient Grace

Paul asked three times for the Lord to remove his "thorn in the flesh" (his sickness).  What God said was...

2 Corinthians 12:9 - "And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee:  for my strength is made perfect in weakness.  Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Saving graces saves us from our sins. Sufficient, Sustaining Grace meets us at our point of need and equips us with courage, wisdom, and strength.  It surprises us...with ample resources of faith.

The Sufficient, Sustaining Grace does not promise the absence of struggle, but the presence of God.

"...that the power of Christ may rest upon me."

September 7, 2014 - Good News For A Troubled Heart - Believe In Jesus!

John 14:1 - "Let not your heart be troubled; ye believe in God, believe also in me."

Jesus says "It's Me, it's Me, that can fix a troubled heart!

Believing in Jesus is the answer for a troubled heart. Philippians 4:7 - "And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

The devils believe in God, and likewise today, many people believe in God, but few believe in Jesus.

Jesus is to be honored and believed in!!

John 5:23 - "That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father.  He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him."

The greatest comfort is knowing because of one's faith in Christ, when they leave this world, they will be with Him.  Because if they die without Him they die in their sin, and will not be let into Heaven, but must face the Lake of Fire.

To help a troubled heart, tell them of Jesus.

August 31, 2014 - Do Not Forget To Enjoy The Moment!

Labor Day:  A national holiday observed in the United States and Canada on the first Monday in September in honor of working people.

God intends for us to enjoy the labor of life that He has given us.  If we are not careful we can labor, labor, and labor, and never stop to enjoy the fruits of it.

Ecclesiastes 3:13 - "And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God."

Life and all that it entails is a gift from God.  We do not live in the past, nor do we live in the future...we live in the moment.  So stop to enjoy the moment, yesterday gone, no promise of another day.  Right now, this is life.

If we aren't careful, we can become out of balance, all work and no play and miss the blessings of the here and now.  Of course we should plan for the future, God tells us to do that.  But that is planning...that is like making my list of things to do.  That isn't living!!  Living is right now.

John 10:10 - "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy:  I am come that they might have live, and that they might have it more abundantly."

So enjoy the abundance of God's gift, the good of your labor!!

August 24, 2014 - Back In The Groove

Now that school has started back, we are back in the "school day groove".  Both students and parents are seeing people again that you may not have seen for a few weeks.

What a wonderful time again, (or maybe for the first time), to use encounters with them to the glory of God.  By inviting them to church, maybe handing them a tract, or starting a conversation on the times we live in, and the importance of knowing Jesus.

Last time you spoke with them, they may not have been a slight bit interested, but much can change in one's life in a few weeks.

So get back in the groove -- see how the Spirit can move by your witness! . . . Romans 10:17

August 17, 2014 - What Are You Afraid Of?

Psalm 27:1 - "The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?  The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?"

Who was the first person to be afraid?  Why?

Gen 3:10 - "And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself."  Because of sin, Adam was afraid.

David said he would not be afraid.

1.  Of people:  "I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about." - Psalm 3:6
2.  Of scary things at night:  "Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;" - Psalm 91:5
3.  Of scary stories:  "He shall not be afraid of evil tidings:  his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD." - Psalm 112:7
4.  Of anything:  "What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee." - Psalm 56:3

Jesus promised peace, not fear.

John 14:27 - "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you:  not as the world giveth, give I unto you.  Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid,"

2 Timothy 1:7 - "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

There are a lot of fearful things going on in our world, but we as God's people need not fear, or be afraid!!

August 10, 2014 - Assembling Ourselves Together

Hebrews 10:25 - "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching."

I just wish to encourage each to do all you can to make it out to each night of the meetings this week, starting 7:00pm tonight thru Wednesday night.   The church together will get as much help as we each do individually!  The revival and survival of the church depends on each of us.  Each member is very important to the body!  That means your personal revival, together with my personal revival, will strengthen the body.  So come out each night asking the Lord to not just stir our hearts, but to change our hearts.  A chain is as strong as its weakest link, and the church is as strong as its weakest member.

August 3, 2014 - 158 Years

Next Sunday is our Homecoming, our 158th year anniversary!!  I'm glad to say that we still stand on the King James Bible and are still having regular services three times a week.  We are still doing what we can to reach the world with the gospel.  Starting next Sunday we will start Revival services each night at 7:00pm and they will continue until Wednesday night.  It would be a good time to invite a loved one, friend, coworker, or anyone you have talked with in the past and invited to church.  Use these special meetings to invite someone again, without coming across as being pushy.  Just one more reason to invite someone to church!

July 27, 2014 - Take Time!

We have five months left of this year, 2014.  You have time to memorize this year's Sunday School memory verses!

There is much wisdom in these verses:

Psalm 1:1-6

July 20, 2014 - Christ Is The Better!

In the book of Hebrews we find that Jesus and His cross is BETTER!

Jesus is:
  • Better than angels (chapters 1-2)
  • Better than Moses (chapter 3)
  • Better than Joshua (chapter 4:1-13)
  • Better than Aaron (chapter 4:14-7:28)
Christ's Cross provides a:
  • Better hope (chapter 7:19)
  • Better covenant (chapter 7:22)
  • Better promise (chapter 8:6)
  • Better sacrifice (chapter 9:23)
  • Better possession (chapter 10:34)
  • Better country (chapter 11:16)
  • Better resurrection(chapter 11:35)
  • Better provision (chapter 11:40)
After reading the book of Hebrews. . .

You had better have Jesus!!

There is none better!!

July 13, 2014 - Approved Workman

2 Timothy 2:15 - "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."

In the ancient world there was no banking system as we know it today, and no paper money.  All money was made from metal, heated until it was liquid, poured into molds, and allowed to cool.  When the coins were cooled, it was necessary to smooth off the uneven edges.  The coins were comparatively soft and of course many people shaved them closely.  In one century, more than eighty laws were passed in Athens to stop the practice of shaving down the coins that were then in circulation.  But some money changers were men of integrity, who would accept no counterfeit money.  They were men of honor who put only genuine full weighted money into circulation.  Such men were called "dokimos", or "approved."

We need to study and know our Bible well enough that we can weigh it against the many counterfeit teachings going on in the name of Jesus.

There are many that are shaving much of the truth from their teaching, and circulating false doctrines.

Let's be called "dokimos"...approved workmen!

July 6, 2014 - Sweet Land Of Liberty

The United States Of America is now 238 years old.  It is a land of liberty, freedom, peace, and I know why...the last line in the song "My Country, Tis of Thee" says...

"Our Father God, to thee, Author of liberty, to thee we sing
Long May our land be bright with freedom's holy light
Protect us by thy might, Great God our King."

1.  We are blessed and protected by God the Father
2.  We have freedom's Holy Light, the gospel of Jesus Christ.

That light is still being preached in our nation's churches, streets, school bible clubs, door to door, on the radio, cable, internet, printed tracts, papers, songs, signs, t-shirts, ball caps, bumper stickers, at holidays, etc...

Happy Birthday USA!!  May we always be bright, by freedom's Holy Light!

June 29, 2014 - Half Full Or Half Empty?

Think hard, think back six months ago.  Can you remember what it was you were going to do this year?  Did it have anything to do with witnessing or helping someone in some way?

I am not wanting to rush you or anything like that, just saying, boy the last six months came and went FAST . . .

If there is someone you had desired to witness to this year, or say something to, do something with, and you have not done it yet, you had best get with it!

Colossians 4:5 -- "Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time."

They may not be around the next half, or you may not be around the next half, or we all (caught up together) may not be around the next half.

June 22, 2014 - It Could Be This Summer

It's now summer time!  I can not help as I see the changing of the seasons, to think of time.

1.  How it seems to fly by as I get older.
2.  Also, Jesus talked of seeing the fig tree and knowing that summer is soon, and comparing it to knowing of the time of His coming again.

Matthew 24:32-33 -- " Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh;  So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors."

The trumpet could sound this summer...are you ready?  Are there others than need to be told?  We had better start telling, because I do believe His return is at the doors!

June 15, 2014 - As A Father

I have been a father now for 27 years.  I have learned many things.

We talk of educating our children, but I have been educated also, by my children.

We never know the love of our parents until we become a parent.

To love is to place our happiness in the happiness of our children/another.

I believe a parent's love for their child is a much more powerful love than the child's love for their parents.  Who of us has ever loved God with the same power He has loved us?!

I believe any of my children could come to me today and say, "I hate you, Dad." and it would not change my love for them!

I believe that is so with our Heavenly Father...when I cared the least for God, He gave His most for me!!

June 1, 2014 - Deep Impression

As a boy my family did not go to church, but a few summers I do remember going to VBS.  Back then churches had them 10:00 am until noon.  Even though it has been 40 years or so, I still can remember some of the lessons, and the teachers' faces...

VBS left a deep impression in my life.  I do believe one reason that yesterday I got to count 31 years being saved has something to do with VBS!

So now for the next two weeks we get to leave some deep impression on the heart of the youth of our day.  Sow the truth to hearts that are being lied to over and over again!

***************************************************************************

"We go by majority vote, and if they majority are insane, then the sane must go to the hospital."

"A man in the right with God on his side is in the majority though he be alone."

May 25, 2014 - 7 Days Until VBS

Take some VBS fliers and pass them out.  Make VBS part of your discussions over the next 7 days...just bring it into the conversation.  There are classes for all ages, cars to make, and DQ...

We can pick children up if needed...

So rest up, pray up, and look up for help, guidance, and strength.  Ask the Lord to make your speech sweet when under pressure!

Quotes:

  • "I would rather have a fool make me merry, than experience make me sad."  (Unknown)
  • "A torn jacket is soon mended, but hard words bruise the heart of a child."  (Longfellow)

May 18, 2014 - VBS TIME!

VBS Time means it's time to start praying...

-- I am a firm believer the VBS sows much of God's truth into young hearts, and I know the devil will not give up that ground without a fight.

-- Also, we need to pray for each other...VBS is a time that, if we don't watch it, we can get in the flesh, and fuss and fight, shout and pout.  Hey, we don't have time for that!!

-- To pray for each that gets invited to come...

-- The power of God to be on our signs and fliers...

-- That our vans would be full, and that they run!!

Colossians 4:3 - "Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ".

May 11, 2014 - Some Have Said About Mom!

"The future destiny of the child is always the work of the mother." -- Napoleon

"All that I am or hope to be, I owe to my mother." -- Abraham Lincoln

"An ounce of mother is worth a pound of clergy." -- Spanish proverb

"A man never sees all that his mother has been to him until it's too late to let her know that he sees." -- W. D. Howells

If you can let your mom know today, be sure to tell her.

May 4, 2014 - Think!

Fear God and all other fears will disappear!

Worry is interest paid on trouble before it is due.

April 27, 2014 - Added To The Membership

Acts 2:41 - "Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls."

Today we will be going creek-side to close out our services.  The ones who have trusted Christ for salvation will be baptized

Not to wash their sins away...that was taken care of when they called upon Jesus to save them.  Baptism is a picture of the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ.  They will be showing outwardly what has happened to them inwardly the day they trusted Christ for salvation.

Also they will be added to the church roll, as a member of this local church.  Not Heaven's roll, their names were added to that roll the day they called upon Christ for salvation!

What a blessing to trouble the water once again!

As we trouble the water, remember we are troubling the devil too!!  He will not take it sitting down, so be prayerful, on your toes...stay in the Word to stay strong!

April 20, 2014 - He Lives!

Revelation 1:18 - "I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and death."

Jesus' resurrection was very different than Lazarus'...

Lazarus did not have a glorified body...he needed to be unwrapped.  Jesus had a glorified body that could go through rooms and stone tombs, and left the grave clothes intact.

Lazarus died again and his body now waits for the resurrection.

Jesus is alive ever more, never to die again, and seated at the right hand of the Father, awaiting the Father to say..."Go Get Them..."

Because Christ lives, I live...

Galations 2:20 - "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me:  and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Because He lives, He can save you too!

Hebrews 7:25 - "Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them."

April 13, 2014 - Palm Sunday

This is the day that we remember our Lord making His triumphal entry into Jerusalem.  Just days before He goes to the cross to die for our sins, and a week before we find the tomb empty!

More important to each that is reading this...has there been a Palm Day in your life?  A time when you let the Lord Jesus Christ ride into your life, and triumph over sin, and save your Hell-bound soul?

My Palm Day was May 31, 1983.  I am still waving palm branches of praise to Him for that day, and will for eternity!

April 6, 2014 - Got To Tell!!

Psalm 34:8 -- "O taste and see that the LORD is good:"

Yesterday at the Flea Market, a young boy looked at the box, said he was saved, and so I gave him a Little Debbie cake.  In a few moments he came back with two sisters, and they too wanted cakes.  (He showed them the box and did a fine job, too!)

I thought of just how it is when one comes to know the Lord.  After one gets saved, they go and tell others how sweet it is.  Then the others come to taste, and see that the Lord is good for themselves.

When one gets saved, I believe it is just as natural for him to tell others where he found the Lord, as it is for a boy to go tell his sisters where the free Little Debbie cakes are!

So go tell how sweet Jesus is, and watch the Holy Spirit build a hunger in one's heart for the Lord!  Watch them taste, and they will also see that the Lord is good!

March 30, 2014 - How To Please God
1 Thessalonians 4:1 - "Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more."

To Please God:  Depend Upon Him

Hebrews 11:6 - "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

  • For deliverance from hell;  Romans 10:13 - "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."
  • For direction in life;  Proverbs 3:6 - "In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."

March 23, 2014 - Madness!

Friday night March Madness was another great time of food, fun, family, and hard competition.

First place went to Zach Moore, second place was Hunter Mick, and Third Place was River Lucas, who won the tiebreaker from Courtney Sherfey.  Reed Lucas won the free throw shoot, and Miss Sailor Lucas won the Jr. shoot.

Adult winners of the golden bricks for the year 2014 were Sis. Rita McMillian and Carl Lucas.  We do hope they enjoy the bricks and display them proudly!

Last night's youth fellowship:

We placed third in the quizzing. Courtney and Zach each quizzed off once.  We as a church won the attendance banner!

March 16, 2014 - Faithful: Yes or No

If your car starts one out of three times, do you consider it faithful?

If your paperboy skips the Sunday & Thursday editions, would they be missed, and would you consider him faithful?

If your refrigerator quits a day now and then, do you excuse it by saying that it works most of the time?  Would it be faithful?

If you miss a couple of house payments in a year, would your mortgage holder say that ten out of twelve wasn't too bad, and consider you faithful?

Now...let me get a bit personal...

If you miss church once or twice a month without a real cause or reason, are you faithful?

March 9, 2014 - Keep On Fire!

Paul finished his course for the Lord faithful!  He was what we would call on fire for the Lord till he departed to Heaven.

You can notice in his writings what helped him keep his zeal/fire:

1.  He remembered a better future - 2 Corinthians 4:17

17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;

2.  He remembered the coming judgment - 2 Corinthians 5:9-10

9 Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.
10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

3.  He remembered the love of Christ - 2 Corinthians 5:14

14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead;

We'll keep on fire if we keep these in mind also!

March 2, 2014 - Critter Dinner

Last night's Critter Dinner was a fine time as always, with good food and fellowship, and Bro. Skidmore did a fine job preaching!

Now we have a whole year to gather up some critters for next year's dinner...unless the rapture comes, and we will be eating at the Lord's table.  I do believe that would be far better!

Hey, we had two saved at the flea market yesterday, the teens were out knocking on doors...First Baptist Church is on the move!

Try to tell someone you have never told before about the Lord this week!  And if you have opportunity, tell others again!

February 23, 2014 - Good Job Coaches & Team!

Last night's Youth Fellowship was a fine time as always.  Our quiz team came in second place, and Zach Moore quizzed off three times last night.  For the whole year we are in first place with 10 points.  So good job team, and coaches Kinders and Noels.

Also, we as a church got to take home the attendance banner with 21 in attendance.  It is good to see so many come to support our youth.

Be sure to invite all you can this week to our Critter Dinner, Saturday at 6:00 pm.  Come all...we have all kinds of critters, domestic and wild!  Also be in prayer for Pastor Ryan Skidmore, who will bring the message that night!

February 16, 2014 - Thanks, Great, and Good

I again want to say THANKS for the trip.  Danette and I had a GREAT time, and I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would.  Yet it is sure GOOD to be home!

(I thought how good it would have been to have all of you on board with us...so I thought I'd see if I could win a big bunch at the casino and get enough money for us all to go!!  Really, what I need now is if some of you could loan me a few for my truck payment!!)  ha ha

Relaxed, Refreshed, and Ready for another!

Philippians 1:3 - "I thank my God upon every remembrance of you."

February 9, 2014 - See Ya Next Sunday

2 Timothy 4:6 - "...and the time of my departure is at hand."

We should be about ready to load up in our ship and depart to the open sea!  I do hope for smooth sailing, and I am going to find out if I get sea sick (or get sick from eating too much!).

You are in my prayers at this moment.  I am sure Bro. Cain has got the message for the hour!

Thanks for the trip.  I am sure we'll enjoy it greatly.  See you next Sunday!  (if the ship doesn't sink, or Danette doesn't push me overboard or leave me on an island!!!!)

February 2, 2014 - The Approaching Day

Hebrews 10:25 -"Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching."

As we read the Bible, we are told of things to see to let us know that The Day Of The Lord is close...James 5:8 - "Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh."

You can't help but look around and see "perilous times" - 2 Timothy 3:1 - "This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come."

As we see we are in these times, our assembling together is so much more the need.  Be careful not to forsake the assembling where we can be reminded of truth in these lying days.  Receive strength to stand for truth and not fall away!

2 Peter 3:17 - "Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness."

January 26, 2014 - Going To Church...

The Bible teaches that we are to assemble (Hebrews 10:26).  The Lord had His disciples to go and establish churches.  You can not question the importance of going to church, nor do we need to pray about going.

But in this day we live in, we need to know our Bible and pray about WHICH church to go to.  There are many false religions.  We should not go to the church of our choice, but go to a church that lines up with Bible teaching!

Here are some things to look for:

  • The right BIBLE -- Jesus only for salvation
  • Grace through Christ's blood
  • Must be born again to go to Heaven, and miss Hell
  • Jesus is the only way
  • A strong stand upon the Bible's authority
  • Reaching the lost, missions, etc.
  • A Pastor to lead, a strong preacher, not a hireling
  • One that will warn of a real place called Hell!

January 19, 2014 -Be Merry!!

Luke 15:23 - "And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry:"

Today we will be merry with a dinner over the fact that we have seen 202 call upon Christ at our flea market booth.

Also, let's be merry about Amber and Tiffany accepting Christ last week, and for our taking on Bro. John Gossett for mission support, and our youth out witnessing and on fire for the Lord!

When we think of missions, it is not only those who we support on the bulletin boards in the back of the sanctuary.  We have three radio broadcasts, and our website that Bro. John works real hard at!  Then we have tracts and Bibles that we give out.  Each Thursday at 10:30 am the ladies have nursing home services, and we have service twice each month there at 7:00pm also.

All this can only happen when the Lord has our involvement, support, time (doing, prayer), talents (whatever the Lord has gifted your to do), etc...

So be merry and thankful that the Lord lets us serve Him in these ways, and be open to any other service He may direct!

January 12, 2014 - Missions

Next Sunday we will be taking up our Faith Promises for 2014.  What a joy in knowing that here and around the world we are having a part in reaching lost souls!

The Bible teaches us that we are to go and teach the gospel.  We do that as we go day by day at work, or play, as we go to the nursing home, door to door, or to the flea market, and when we hand out or place a tract in our community.

We have been empowered by the Holy Spirit to be witnesses, and we are told to go to the uttermost parts of the world.

Some ways we go to the uttermost parts...
  • We support missionaries that have been to the uttermost parts.
  • We have a website that reaches to the uttermost parts.
  • We have three radio programs that go to the uttermost parts.
  • We have a flea market ministry where we talk to people from the uttermost parts.
Be praying and asking God what He would have you to give each month to missions this year.

Next Sunday we will take up our promises.

January 5, 2014 - Christ Be Seen in 2014!

John 12:32 - "And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me."

In the Lord's days on the earth, people heard what the law said, but just did not know Who it was speaking of.

John 12:34 - "The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest though, The Son of man must be lifted up?  who is this Son of man?"

Let's make 2014 the year that makes the lost around us know Who the Son of man is...JESUS!  Let's tell all we can Who Jesus is.  Let's live a life that He can be seen in us.  When the world sees something in us, be quick to lift up Jesus.

Christ Be Seen In 2014!

December 29, 2013 - Last Sunday!

Today is our last Sunday of the year 2013.  There will be a Sunday that will be our last Sunday to assemble.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 - "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.  Wherefore comfort one another with these words."

January the 5th is our next scheduled Sunday meeting.  It is very possible our next meeting will not be at 71 Upper Pinch Road, but in the clouds!

Are you ready for the last Sunday?

December 22, 2013 - Why Should We Forgive?

Ephesians 4:31-32 - "Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you."

As we finish this year 2013, and Good Lord willing step into 2014, there may be a thing or two you really do not need to take with you into this new year...be best to be put away, forgiven.

Finish the year off right, and start next year on the right foot.

So Lord willing tonight at the 7:30 pm service, I will preach on "Choosing Forgiveness".

December 15, 2013 - It's CHRISTmas

I do not like to see signs, cards, etc. that say "Merry X-mas", "X-mas Trees", etc.

You can call the season a winter holiday, happy holidays, but to spell Christmas as "X-mas", and leave out the name that is above every name, the only name whereby men can be saved...I do believe is too much!

I also believe many sign a card "X-mas" because it is a short way of saying Christmas.  If that be true, I would like to say this:

The name, "Christ", is worthy of slowing down for, making an extra effort, and to give more time, and take more thought, to write it out and say.

Consider

Psalm 8:1 - "O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! Who hast set thy glory above the heavens."

Psalm 148:13 - "Let them praise the name of the LORD: for his name alone is excellent; his glory is above the earth and heaven."

Philippians 2:9 - "Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name."

So I say Merry Christ-X!

December 8, 2013 - Dinner of Grace!

Today we will be having our church Christmas dinner.  It is a joy to worship together, and dine together...

One day, and it may be soon, we will be eating at a great supper, all because of God's Grace!

Revelation 19:9 - "And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb.  And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God."

As we eat today I want to thank God for a blessed country, knowing that the blessings are from the Lord's grace.  Our nation at it's best still was blessed because of His grace, not because of our worthiness.

Enjoy the dinner of Grace...

December 1, 2013 - Thanksgiving Day

I know this year it was November 28th, but for me it will always be May 31st!

2 Thessalonians 2:13 - "But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:"

As I look back, I am thankful for each time in my lost life that God had a witness to tell me the need of Christ in my life!

I have many days that were great blessings to me in my life; yes, each day is a day of thanks, BUT...the day I am thankful for the most was on a Thursday night, May 31, 1983, around 7:30 PM, when I was given the gospel in the living room of my home, and I called upon Christ to save this hell-bound sinner.

November 24, 2013 - Give Thanks To A God Full Of Mercy

I find this statement at least 11 times in the Scriptures:

"O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever."

When you think about how holy God, and how unholy man is, it is a great thing to be thankful that a holy God would deal with us in mercy, and not give us what we deserve.

Mercy says, "Please do not give to me what I have coming."  It is a merciful God that offers saving grace to a hell-deserving people.

I have much to be thankful for, and the greatest is that our God's mercy endureth for ever."

November 17, 2013 - If The Lord Don't Come Soon...

We will be need a new roof on the church building once again.  Back in June, we paid off the parsonage, and we kept the account, calling it the "The Property / Maintenance Fund."  Our next project is the roof.  We will be putting a metal roof on the building like we did the Fellowship Building.

Like we did for the property, we will take each last Sunday Evening's offerings and place it in the account.  When we have enough, we will replace the roof.

As of now we have $2,341.15 in the account.  When you give to this offering, you can give at any time...just be sure to mark it "Property/Maintenance Fund", or give it during the offering on the last Sunday evening of each month.

November 10, 2013 - Think On These Things

--A loose tongue often gets into tight places.
--I have often regretted my speech, seldom my silence.
--Out of the mouth of babes comes words we should not have said in the first place.
--People who fly into rage always make a band landing.

November 3, 2013 - Unto God...

This is the time of the year you will hear people being interviewed on TV news, etc...you will hear people say "I am thankful," but then they stop.  I want to say, "Thankful to WHO?"

This is the Thanksgiving time of the season, but let's not forget WHO it is that we are to be thankful to!!

Psalm 75:1 - "Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do we give thanks; for that thy name is near thy wondrous works declare."

Let's not leave Christ out of Christmas, and let's not leave God out of Thanksgiving!

October 27, 2013 - A Smile, And A Pleasant Spirit!

It might surprise you how strong a witness a happy smile is to others.

The Queen of Sheba had seen all of Solomon's glory, and the one thing that stuck out to her was the happy spirit of his servants.

1 Kings 10:8 -- "Happy are thy men, happy are these thy servants, which stand continually before thee, and that hear thy wisdom."

As I talked with the photographer this weekend, he testified how pleasant of a spirit we had here.  He compared it to other churches he had photographed.  He left with a good witness!

October 20, 2013 - Busy Times!

Today's Thinking:

"Oh my dear, these are so busy times.  I have so many things to do!  I do not know what I should do first...

(After some thought...)  First I should Twitter about this.  Then, I think I will post it to my Facebook page and Instagram...

I've heard it said that the "Gospel" has two parts...the first part is believing it, and the second part is behaving it!

October 13, 2013 - See Ya Later!   When one has lived a full life, leaves a testimony of knowing Christ, and you know they are with Jesus, it still hurts to say goodbye.  But praise be to God, it is not goodbye, but it's "See you later!"   1 Thessalonians 4:13 -- "But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope."   October 6, 2013 - Manage The Mouth!   The Bible teaches that from the heart the mouth speaks.    Luke 6:45 -- "...for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh."   The Bible also teaches that the heart is deceitful and wicked!   Jeremiah 17:9 -- "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked:  who can know it?"   To manage one's mouth, study the heart's thoughts.   Proverbs 15:28 -- "The heart of the righteous studieth to answer:  but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things."   The best way to manage our mouths is to be careful what we load in our hearts!     September 29, 2013 - Thankful!   As I watched the young folks last night at the fellowship, I thought how thankful I am for your young folks.   I hope as they grow up and go on in life, that they will always have a closeness with each other.  I am also thankful for the "old" folks who work with and support the young folks.   My prayer is that we as a church never lose sight of the importance of our youth, and always be supportive of them.  They are our future leaders, yes...but let us not forget...they are our church NOW!!!   September 22, 2013 - The "ber" Months   I love this time of year, when it starts cooling down...the "ber" months:  September, October, November, December.  I love a chill in the air!   Yet I do not want the things that I hear and see going on in our country to put a chill in my heart...such a chill that would cause my love for God, His Work, and each other to wax cold.   Matthew 24:12 -- "And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold."   Because of that fear, it is very important that we stay close to the heat. (i.e. the Bible, prayer, fellowship, preaching)   So I say, "Enjoy the 'ber' months with me, but don't let your love wax cold!" (and wear a sweater if you must!)   September 15, 2013 - Someone Tell The President...   Proverbs 26:17 -- "He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife belonging not to him, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears."   September 8, 2013 - Have You Hid It Too Good?   Psalm 119:11 -- "Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee."   We are to hide the word in our heart...         "Hide" means to treasure or store up...   Too many believers have hid the word so well that they can not find it to tell others!  Who, and how many did you tell the word of God to this past week?  Have you hid the word so well that you can not find any to tell a needy lost person?   Hide it in your heart, not to keep it hid from the lost, but store it away in your heart for the purpose of giving it to another, and help keep yourself from sin!   September 1, 2013 - Labor Day!   Labor Day is a national holiday observed in the United States and Canada on the First Monday in September in honor of working people.   We need to stop, think, and be thankful for all of the labor that makes our nation run.  When we get up in the morning, we have lights, water that is running and heated, the gas that pumps for our car, the road we drive on, the coffee that is served, etc.   I think of the labor of the Lord.  I am saved today because of much labor...from Christ's teaching to all that have taught the truth through the years, so that the gospel came into my heart's understanding.   Now I too must keep the labor force for the word of God going!!!   1 Corinthians 15:58 -- "Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord."   I am what I am, and have what I have because of God and the labor of many!   August 25, 2013 - Sunday Night...   For the next few weeks at our 7:30 pm services, as the Lord allows, I will be preaching on future events...The End Times.  Tonight I will start with the thought, "What's this world coming to?"   I have the answer..."The End!"   As the Lord allows, I plan to preach on subjects such as...   Faith For The Future Ready For The Rapture Judgment Seat Of Christ The Tribulation The Antichrist The King Is Coming The Kingdom Age EternitySo do not miss a night, as I believe each night will be blessings, and should help each of us see the great need of warning the lost we know with more urgency and fervency! August 18, 2013 - Look Smart!   Proverbs 17:28 - "Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise:  and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding."   I remember my Dad saying to me, "It is better to be thought of as smart, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."   I seen a fellow the other day.  I thought he looked like he was alright, and had it together.  But then I heard him talk, curse, and my thoughts changed drastically!   So give this a thought...what do people really think about you, now that they have heard you talk?   August 11, 2013 - School Again!!   I know the young folks find it hard to believe that the summer break is all over and it is school time again.  When I was in school, we started much later.  I hear tell that they are talking of all year around school coming soon.   I just want to remind each child of God that we are always in "all year round" school, "The Lord's School."  We need always to keep in the text book (the Bible), and show up for class (Church), and do our homework (telling other of Jesus)!   2 Peter 3:18 -- "But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ..."   2 Timothy 2:15 -- "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."   One day we will receive our grade card!    August 4, 2013 - 157th Anniversary   157 years and we are going forward, not backward!   In a day when churches stop having evening services, use perverted bibles, worldly style music, and have two types of services, it is a joy to see a church staying strong with proper services, music, Bible, and holding evening services.  It is even greater to see a church that does even more!   In our 157th year, we are not just holding to these things listed, but we also support 28 missions at $100 per month; we are on multiple radio stations, we distribute tracts, have visitation and nursing home outreaches, flea market soul-winning booth, vans, VBS, revival, and as the Lord leads, we are willing to do more!   At 157 Years Old:   As a church ages, it can stop doing good things.  It is my prayer that we keep going strong, doing well for our Lord!  One day we will see a great harvest, and rewards for our faithfulness!   Galatians 6:9..."And let us not be weary in well doing:  for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not."     July 28, 2013 - 157 Years Old   This church is even older than West Virginia!   Now we are 157 years old, and still staying with the old stuff...   The Bible that does not change -- the King James Bible The Blood that does not corrupt -- we preach the blood The Blessed Hope -- He could come any day The Banner called the ChurchToday, many have gotten away from the word "church", and call themselves "worship center", "fellowship", "house of praise", etc.  I like the title Church because it is Bible!   Christ is the head of the church (Ephesians 5:23) Christ is in love with the church (Ephesians 5:25) Christ died for the church (Ephesians 5:25) Christ will one day perfect the church (Ephesians 5:26-27)     July 21, 2013 - 28 Years Have Been Good   Proverbs 18:22 -- "Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD."   Twenty eight years ago I said I will love her until death.  When I said it at the altar, it was more of an unsure promise I had hoped to keep.  But now twenty eight years later, I know it is a promise I will keep.  I do believe that the Lord has favored me with the wife that I believe He gave me...   Today as I bounce our grandchildren on my knee and sit with my family in the pew, I can not help but say I have obtained favour of the Lord!     July 14, 2013 - Just A Man...   What makes a man "just"?   Not by any thing we do, or stop doing...it is Christ!   Galatians 2:16a -- "Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ..."   Romans5:1 -- "Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ."   What happens when a saved man sins (falls)?  Proverbs 24:16 says "For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief."   When a "religious" or unsaved man falls he stays down.  When a saved (just) man falls, (it is the old man nature that falls), the Holy Spirit that is the Justifier lifts him back up.  He repents and goes on for the Lord!   When a saved man falls, remember, he is just a man.  If you watch him, you will see the Lord get him back up again.   July 7, 2013 - I've Been Helped, I've Been Hurt, I Have Helped, I Have Hurt   James 3:5 -- "Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things.  Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth."   A fire is such a blessing when governed correctly.  We cook our meals, drive our cars, and heat our homes with fire.  Yet let it slip and we have harm, destruction, and death.  So the tongue is such a blessing, but boy, how it can hurt when it slips.   If your lips would keep from slips, Five things to observe with care: To whom you speak, of whom you speak, And how, and when, and where. --Author Unknown   June 30, 2013 - 237 Years   This Thursday we will be celebrating 237 years of our independence from England.  When you study the fight for our independence, you can not help but see our great dependence upon the Lord God.   We read the early writings of our nation, and the speeches that our leaders made in those days.  There was no shame in the acknowledgment of God, and our need for Him.   Now, 237 years later, we do not even want a prayer said in our high school graduation.  The cross, nativity, and ten commandments have been taken down.  We are killing the babies in the mothers' wombs.  Now our nation is even taking a lower low, with state by state okaying sodomite marriage.   I say as John said at the end of the Revelation..."Even so, come, Lord Jesus."   June 23, 2013 - Just Passing It On!   I talked with a fellow this past week.  In our conversation, he told me how critical he was about church folk before he got saved.  He would say, "I'm not going to church with a bunch of hypocrites!"   He said his mother-in-law would say back to him, (and this is what I want to pass on), "I would rather go to church with hypocrites than to go to hell with them!"   I thought that was a powerful comeback when someone has that excuse.  So the next time you hear someone say "There are too many hypocrites in church," just say "I agree, but I would rather go to church with them than to go to hell with them!"   Let God sort out who is real and who is not...you just be real!
